Our research on coral reefs examines trophic pathways, ecosystem resilience, ecological theory, benthic community dynamics, animal behaviour and the evolution of biodiversity and processes.

Although we often focus on the ‘providers of functions’, our goal is to understand functions per se, i.e.
the movement or storage of energy or material. “

Our background lies in studying fishes on coral reefs in the Bellwood Reef Fish Lab at James Cook University in Townsville, Australia.

Now, thanks to a recent ARC Laureate Fellowship awarded to Prof David Bellwood, we have the ability to expand our research and launch the brand-new Research Hub for Coral Reef Ecosystem Functions.
